Advantages of LED Lighting
The main advantages of LED lighting are:
- Longer life-time: LED lights are estimated to last around 50,000 hours (that is for example 6 hours a day for 365 days a year for 23 years). For comparison, fluorescent lamps are rated 10,000-15,000 hours while incandescent bulbs are rated 1,000-2,000 hours.
- High efficiency: LEDs produce more light per watt than incandescent and halogen bulbs making them an eco-friendly lighting solution.
- Color source availability: LED lights can emit light of different colors without the need of color filters used with traditional lighting. With these more efficient and precise lighting effects, designers are able to better customize a yachts design.
- Emitting light with no heat emanation: LED lights emit very little infrared (heat) frequencies as most of them are dissipated from the HEAT SINK on the back so they are ideal for lighting heat and infrared sensitive materials.
- Shock resistance: LEDs do not suffer from vibrations or shocks that would damage traditional sources.
- On/off cycling: LEDs lifetime is independent from the number of on/off cycles unlike the incandescent, halogen or fluorescent.
- Burnt-out: LEDs typically fade out during time rather than suddenly burning-out as Incandescent, halogen or fluorescent making them an ideal marine lighting source. This is particularly important on all applications where availability of light is vital (like on emergency circuits).
- Eco-friendliness: LED lights are more environmentally friendly because they do not contain mercury unlike fluorescent lamps.
